This research project is an offshoot of the development of the funicular flooring system which proposes to replace conventional shuttering with traditional woven mats when casting arched floor slabs.

The beautiful, subtle patterned renders of the woven mats on underside of nonCrete cast vaulted arches improves their acoustic performance and the aesthetic quality of the final cast surface.
Woven mats are locally sourced from communities in the vicinity of the construction site, thereby creating local work opportunities and celebrating indigenous forms and textures.
